Attendance Questions Please Call (801) 409-0720 (Main Office)

Consistent attendance is important to a student’s educational success. Parents, if you have any questions or want to know if your child has any attendance credit loss, please call the number above. STUDENTS WILL NOT RECEIVE THEIR PHYSICAL DIPLOMA UNTIL ALL ATTENDANCE CREDIT LOSS IS MADE UP. If your student is absent, please call the school and excuse them. When you call, state your child’s name, grade, reason for absence, date of absence and time involved along with any doctor’s note etc. A 24-hour voice-mail line (801-409-0720) is available to parents for the purpose of excusing student absences. Special arrangements need to be made in the case of prolonged or prearranged absences. A doctor’s statement must be provided if a student misses four consecutive days of school due to illness or any other type of dismissal along those lines; otherwise, the missed days will count against attendance credit. DaVinci Academy is also a closed campus unless paperwork is filled out to leave for lunch (applies only to 10th-12th grade).

Attendance Policy:

  • Absence: A student will be marked absent from class when not in attendance. Five or more absences in any class during any quarter will result in a U for a citizenship grade. Please look on your student’s transcript to see what U’s he or she has to make up. Allowances may be made for prearranged absences. Students experiencing long-term illness under certain circumstances or absences beyond student/family control.
  • Truancy: A truancy is an unexcused absence without parent or teacher/administrative permission. Unexcused absences become truancies. Hall pass infractions, catching students sloughing, leaving school without permission, not checking out appropriately or not checking in when late are all considered truancies. A truancy during any quarter will result in a U for citizenship in the class effected.
  • Tardies: Students tardy five or more times in any class during any quarter will result in a U which also means a loss of attendance that needs to be made up. This can include excused tardies which are typical during the 1st class of each day. Please get your student(s) here on time!

Pre-Arranged Absences

If parents request to have their student excused from school for reasons other than illness or family emergencies, arrangements must be made in advance. Please let the front office and teachers be made aware of the situation so an adequate plan can be in place to keep the student current in their studies.

School Excused Absence

School activities that require students to be absent from class will be school excused. The front office will be made aware and no truancy will be made.

Student Check-In

Students arriving more than 10 minutes late to any class must check at the front office. Students arriving less than 10 minutes late to any class should go directly to class.

Student Check-Out

Any time a student needs to leave school before the end of the school day, he/she must check out at the Front Office. The school is required by law to have a responsible person approve student check out which we keep record of.

  • Students who leave campus without proper check-out will be given a U.
  • Students who are ill will be sent to the front office and parents will be made aware.

Attendance Credit Make-Up

  • All attendance credit make-up must be pre-approved by Mr. Post or Mrs. Cash.
  • Each U a student has is two hours of community service or 10 dollars to be paid at the front office for the first U.
  • First U is $10 to make up, second is $20, third is $30, and so on is $30 or community service.

Community Service Options

  • Students may not receive pay or any other benefit for hours worked.
  • Students may not work for their employer or a relative.
  •  Hours worked must be documented by date and signed by supervisor.

All employees are trained in the emergency response plan before school begins. Each teacher and staff member is trained in these types of emergencies: Fire, Lockdown, Intruder, Earthquake, Weapons, Sheltering, Medical, Seizure, and Anaphylactic Reaction.  Emergency flipcharts are hung in each classroom by the exit. Along with the flipchart is a clipboard with class rosters,  emergency exit routes, and communication signs (click link).

Each Davinci Academy locations have in place Emergency Response Plans that address emergency situations. These plans are updated annually to address new staffing, student needs, community concerns, new research and input from the local law enforcement personnel. The Emergency Response Plans are broad in their approach in order to respond to the many situations that could arise. The plans include response to:

Preparation, general responses, staff responsibilities, school codes or signals, crisis team membership, evacuation routes and relocation sites, lock-down procedures, public information, communication solutions and procedures, canceling school, media response, early warning signs of violent behaviors, violent behavior prevention, and intervention;

  • Fire
  • Severe weather
  • Earthquake
  • Hazardous Materials/Chemical Spills
  • Weapon in school
  • Bomb threats
  • Intruder/hostage situations
  • Medical emergency
  • Suicide attempt/death

Staff trainings are held annually during faculty meetings to orient employees to their roles and responsibilities in emergency situations. Drills for fire and other emergency situations are conducted throughout the year. Schools collaborate with local law enforcement to hold lockdown, intruder, and active shooter drills, taking into account the age and maturity of students. High school students participate actively in drills to simulate realistic behaviors, and local EMTs and firefighters join as appropriate. At least one non-fire emergency drill is conducted each year before April 30.Each location includes, as part of its regular curriculum, violence prevention and intervention strategies such as anger management, conflict resolution, and respect for diversity and other cultures. DaVinci Academy contracts with both Public and Mental Health agencies to promote safe and healthy environments and to provide crisis counseling when necessary if crisis events occur. All locations have personnel trained in CPR and First Aid to respond to medical emergencies. Updated training is provided annually for these identified personnel. Each location maintains a Crisis Team to coordinate and direct actions during any school crisis in concert with local emergency and law enforcement agencies. Each location has in place school codes for evacuation and/or lockdown procedures as well as identified Relocation Centers where students and teachers are to assemble if an emergency evacuation is required due to an intruder situation or other situations that would require students and staff to leave the immediate school grounds. Each location has a Lockdown procedure including:

  • Code for lockdown and “all clear”
  • Securing of both outside and inside doors
  • Covering windows
  • Positioning of students in the classroom
  • Following instructions of school administration and/or law enforcement.

Each location directs visitors to the main office for check-in before proceeding into the school. Doors that do not need to be unlocked in order to maintain a flow of students from one building to another for classes are kept locked in order to maintain as much security as possible.

DaVinci Academy has an identified Public Information process to effectively control information flow and media access, as well as for providing necessary information to the public and to staff and students. School facilities are inspected annually to determine if problems exist which could negatively impact school physical safety and security.

DaVinci Academy works closely with the Ogden Police Department and our State Risk Management Agency to conduct risk assessments at each school, ensuring the safety of students and staff. Policies are in place covering citizenship, civility, drug and alcohol use, student conduct, smoking and tobacco use, possession of dangerous weapons, and student–staff relations. Character education is taught at every school, and counseling and psychological services support school-level interventions, including strategies for violence prevention and intervention. Background checks are required of all employees and regular volunteers. Playground supervision is provided to ensure student safety. School maps and evacuation routes are updated annually and shared with law enforcement. Surveillance cameras are installed in all secondary schools.

Each location maintains emergency phone numbers and addresses to ensure effective communication during emergencies. The Academy also uses 'Parent-Link' to send important notifications and instructions to parents when needed.

DaVinci Academy welcomes parents and community members to share suggestions for improving safety at our schools. You can speak with your school principal, submit recommendations through our website, or call the Executive Administrator.

Unpaid Meal Policy

The purpose of these procedures is to establish consistent meal charging and collection practices across DaVinci Academy. Our goals are to:

  • Maintain a positive experience for students during meal service.
  • Treat all students with dignity and respect.
  • Ensure practices are age-appropriate.
  • Minimize meal charges by encouraging parents to pre-pay for meals.
  • Promote parent responsibility for meal payments and help students develop self-responsibility.

Meal Accounts: Payment in advance for meals enables DaVinci Academy to achieve these goals. Personal check and cash deposits are accepted daily at the schools. For convenience, deposits may also be made by credit/debit card online via the DASA Portal System.

Emergency Meal Service: The Board of Education acknowledges that on occasion, students may forget or lose meal money. In such cases, the student's statement of need shall be accepted and a meal will be made available. School lunch employees shall not withhold a meal, provide an alternate meal, pull a student from the line, ask the student to call his parent or friend, stamp the student's hand, or otherwise call attention to the student who has forgotten or lost meal money. A school lunch employee may remind a student attending a secondary school that his account is in the negative. The cost of the unpaid meal will be charged to the student's account.

Evaluate Individual Circumstances: When a student repeatedly comes to school without a meal from home or money to participate in the school meal program, school administrators should consider if circumstances in the home warrant contacting social workers or Child Protective Services. Frequent requests may indicate the family's need for free or reduced price meals. School administrators may work with the family to apply for school meal benefits. All meals eaten before a free or reduced price meal application is processed and approved are the responsibility of the parent and must be paid for.

Repayment for Meal Charges and Bad Checks: Federal guidelines prohibit the Food and Nutrition operation from writing off bad debts as a result of charged meals. Every effort will be made to collect for unpaid meals. Unpaid meal changes may result in the following:

  • An automated telephone call to the parent.
  • An email sent to the parent.
  • A verbal reminder to student attending a secondary school.
  • School lunch manager contact parents by phone or notes in teacher mail boxes.
  • In case of significant delinquent payments, a letter will be sent home from the Food and Nutrition Department.

Parents are responsible to pay for all of their student's meal charges. All unpaid charges will be added to the list of any outstanding fees or unpaid fines at the end of the school year. Uncollected meal charges shall be handled the same as other school debt.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.

Teacher licensing in Utah ensures your child's teacher is highly qualified to be teaching your child. Utah State Board of Education allows teacher candidates to become licensed via two ways--University-based program, or an Alternate Pathway to Professional Licensure (APPEL). Candidates can also be licensed via a Local-Specific License that is voted on in a open and public meeting and then approved by the Utah State Board of Education. DaVinci Academy recognizes and hires teacher candidates who are licensed through any of the three pathways allowed for teaching at DaVinci Academy. Once a teacher is licensed, they go from Associate License to a Professional License. Below are the percentages of DaVinci Teachers by each type of teaching license. (Updated August 2025)
